Speechless!

Awoke last night at 4:28.  Nothing startled me, just awoke and thought to get out of bed. I always note the time for various reasons.  Outside it was quiet. Until.  At 4:30 my outside door buzzer went.  Not too long, not too short, just about right.  First thought it was ‘kids’ or someone quietly walking along, having ‘fun’ pushing the random button.  I listened from where I stood and heard nothing.  No running feet, silence.  Walked from the bedroom into my sitting room and listened again. Had the sense of someone inside the hallway.  Went to my door, stood and listened.  Felt something.  In the upper center of my door is a round 3 inch circle with a circular cover which swings to the side leaving a hole through which one may look.  I moved it one quarter inch aside, just so one eye could see out.  And there, looking back a me, a twenties-something woman.  Long dark hair, heavily made up eyes, and she says tentatively ‘hello’.  I do and say nothing. She repeats ‘hello’.  She is bathed in light and so I can see her clearly.  I am inside a dark apartment so if she can see anything, it is only one eye.  And an angry eye.  Angry at the audacity of ringing my door.  The audacity of someone in my small building calling for a ‘girl’ and at that hour.  Getting the number wrong.   But I did wonder, how did she get in?  There are double doors that have to be released by buzzer and I can hear the buzzer and the release.  I heard nothing.  There was no answering buzz and I certainly didn’t buzz her in, and she had come to my number.  She repeated her ‘hello’ a third time and I could see confusion and some sort of discomfort in her eyes and spreading over her face.  She looked down at whatever she held in her hand.  She turned and went down the stairs.  I saw she was wearing a red coat slimly belted.  I heard the outside door close.
