No More Garbage Men

The pick-up of trash in specific bins has become specialized.  One man driving one truck can do it all.  It caught me by surprise and I didn’t have time to grab a camera.  The bins with specific recyclables are placed at the curb.  I don’t know yet if it matters which way the lid is facing.  The trash truck drives up, and on the same side as the driver, right behind his cabin a fork lift appears.  The fork lift is moved away from the truck to fit the sides of the garbage can/bin.  The can is then lifted/hoisted up to the top of the truck where the fork lift tilts it until it is over the opening, the lid flips open and the contents are dropped into the container on the flatbed of the truck.  The bin is then lowered again to take its place along the side of the curb.  The truck moves on.  One driver, one truck and a whole lot of empty bins.  What I don’t know is how the garbage gets moved back within the container.  There has to be some internal system as the opening for dumping never changes.

The Queen’s Birthday

was celebrated Monday.  No school, no post office and  no banks were open.  Some stores were open, rather a calm day, creating a long weekend.  What was noteworthy was no particular celebration. No banners in the Sity or small towns, no bands and parades.  I wonder what it in fact means to the populous.  The 2nd in line was here a few weeks ago and those who cared went all out, but for the most part there appears to be little connection.
