Out of City Truth #3

#3.  Dirty pants legs and other clothing.  Getting in and out of the car.  Dealing with the four footers, it appears that clean pants legs are not an option.  There is dirt on my shoes/boots on my coat hem, the back of my pants legs and probably places I don’t see.  Just as well.  What I don’t know…

Out of City Truths #2

#2.  Cooking.  A full kitchen, mixing bowls, pots and pans and lids and every conceivable utensil for stirring, grating, mixing and things you hadn’t thought of doing.  Ann. sent me a try-it ‘Blue Apron” box.  OMG!  3 exquisite meals for 2 persons,  all gathered, sorted and ready to prepare.  Anyone who knows me somewhat well will understand that I couldn’t imagine following the recipes… but the gathered goods give such inspiration.  I could live like this forever.

ps need to clarify the not-following-recipe-part.  if it is a new, clever one, combining tastes I don’t know… ie roasted walnuts and shitake mushrooms sauteed together I will certainly try that.  but if it is a taste I know…well, I’d rather create something new.

Out of City Truths: #1

#1.  The Catskills. The streams and roadside shoulders, views of barns and farms, fields and more farms are a panacea for what ails one when living with traffic, yelling, honking, sirens and non-stop busy-i-ness.  The mountains are rolling and gentle and in some places snow covered.  To arrive by bus from the City takes 2 buses and more than 4 hours.  Worth it every time.

Boy Is THIS Enticing!

Went with a young friend for her appointment at the Dermatologist and while waiting picked up this advert. To post it here, I added my hand as an example, but as it looked  akin to an eagle’s foot, I decided to preserve some sense of dignity, especially after the last posting, and deleted it.  This is Radiesse a dermal filler injected into the back of the hand.   The industry has finally figured out a way for the ‘facelifted’ to be less embarrassed when putting hand-to-face.  Should you consider this procedure, here are a few of the “important safety” factors: “if Radiesse is injected into a blood vessel, serious complications can result….stroke, vision abnormalities, blindness, swelling, lumps, bumps….”.  Wow! and for whom are they doing this?  I of course, would be doing it for me, so NOT.  But I did read it, none the less, cover to cover.

What Have I Become?!

My children [who do not read this] would be horrified at my taking on attributes of their Grandmother.  However, what is one to do when reared with the conviction that wasting food is wrong.  The pictured veggies were all in the garbage -on the selling floor- at my local corner high end grocery store.  I was compelled to ask if I could remove them from the trash [the items other than the pots], which I did. By their glances and stares at me, I am certain the young male employees, thought I was nuts;, eccentric at best;  one of  those little old ladies!  The part of me that watches me, felt I was walking a thin edge of sanity,   Can you toss away apples that make up into applesauce when they retail at $5.++ a pound?  Or the tops of beets, which in this store have no retail value whatsoever. This store is careless with their pricing, they do not repackage the items below because they are 1. believing it doesn’t matter as they are in a high-end neighborhood and there is no need to repackage. 2. ignorance. I believe there are pensioners, or other old people who would buy these at a reduced price.  This and a number of other ‘problems’ with the store, to which I have given my attention, [such as: one quart of goat’s milk -$4.99; a half gallon-$10.65]  are nagging at me to do something more.  Maybe I will offer them to be quality control for a few hours per week.
